Uxbridge is one of the busiest areas of zone 6, striking a balance between the suburban and the bustle of more central areas. The area has its own distinct community, culture, list of things to do and see, and the residents of Uxbridge believe there is a community feel.
For university students, Uxbridge is a particularly great place to rent. Though it appears to be miles out from the central London universities, students can enjoy all of the benefits of living in Uxbridge while still having an easy commute. Additionally, Brunel University students will find their lectures right on their doorstep, making life that little bit easier.
Here, we look at some of the student housing choices in Uxbridge and how they can work for you. We also discuss how a bill splitting service can help you if your rent agreement doesn’t include the cost of bills.

There are a huge number of factors that affect rental costs across the country, not just in Uxbridge. These include the type of property how many other people will be in the property, how big the property is, the quality of the accommodation, how close it is to the universities and other local amenities. For this reason, it is crucial to really do your research and look around to find a property that is within your price range but has everything that you need.
You also need cost of the rent itself, as well the bills. Gas, electricity, water, internet, phone lines and other utilities can really add up and sometimes even overtake the rent itself. It is not something you need to worry about if you rent through UniHomes Properties, as these are already included in the rental price – we know that it makes life easier for students who are already under pressure – but this is certainly not true of all students housing in Uxbridge. Not only that, but some properties may be linked up with particular utility providers with no option of changing, preventing you from shopping around for better deals.

For students, ease of commute is essential. No one wants to be travelling for hours on unreliable public transport to get to university, so making sure that transport links are good is vital. It takes just half an hour on the train to get to central London. With Uxbridge being at the end of the Metropolitan line, which, incidentally, is one of the only London Underground lines with air-con, you are almost guaranteed to get a seat. There is also a reliable bus service, plenty of black cabs, and you are only a stone’s throw from Heathrow – perfect for any getaways that you have planned.
Nightlife and entertainment are also worth thinking about. Whether unwinding with a drink or three after a hard week of studying, or catching the latest blockbuster, it’s handy to have places right on your doorstep. Uxbridge isn’t renowned for crazy nightclubs and bars – which you will be grateful for during exam periods – but a great night out is still possible. As we mentioned above, the journey to central London is simple, and with night buses running throughout the night, getting home safe is easy too.
Uxbridge is pretty well equipped with shops and other amenities. There are two shopping centres, a range of local and independent shops, a leisure centre and multi-screen cinema.
Bills – now these are a big thing to think about when it comes to choosing a property. Many student bills offer a bills-inclusive rent agreement, which can make your life much easier. However, lots of properties don’t offer this. Bills are already stressful when you are on a limited budget, but when you are sharing with other people, there can be a whole host of other challenges. There is nothing more frustrating and worrying than a fellow housemate who doesn’t pay their share of the bills on time. For this reason, it is a good idea to use Split The Bills. This service splits the bills equally and if someone defaults on their payments, Split The Bills sorts it.
Don’t worry – Split The Bills can find the best and cheapest providers for you and bundle all your bills into one easy payment. This means you don’t have to have awkward conversations with your housemates about who’s sorting the electricity bill or how much the gas bill is. That way, you can enjoy the benefits of just having one easy-to-manage payment to make each month and spend more time enjoying student life!
As mentioned before, Uxbridge is further out in zone 6, an excellent location for Brunel students and will tend to be much quieter than more central areas. Being in a busy location is great during fresher’s week, but when you are knuckling down to work and exam prep, you’ll be glad of the quiet. Thanks to the excellent transport links, it is much easier to get around and commute into central London. Of course, Uxbridge is not the only place in London that is great for students – Areas such as Brixton contain heaps of character, but beyond that are places such as Peckham or Lewisham, both excellent locations for Goldsmith’s students.
For most students, particularly first-year students, student halls on campus are the most obvious choice. However, Brunel University does not offer this option, so for students in Uxbridge, other options are available.
One of the most popular choices is to rent a large property or student house – there are plenty of five and six-bedroom properties available in Uxbridge through Uni Homes. These offer a domestic style of living with your housemates, which can be particularly great if it is your first time away from home. Another option may be purpose-built student accommodation blocks.
Our bill splitting service will help you to streamline the way you and your fellow students pay your bills, preventing disagreements on amounts owed and allowing you to budget more effectively both individually and as a household. We also offer great advice for students on how to manage bills when moving into shared housing.
